Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD)

PTSD develops after a individual face a stressful event,whether experiencing it or witnessing it.Usually PTSD develops as a result of a persons inability to cope with that stressful event or situation.Normally the issue will arise with one month of that stressful experience and it persistant over time until proper treatment is sought.Some of these events may include combat exposure, sexual assault, natural disasters, accidents, terrorist attacks,or witnessing a violent death.

People with PTSD have intense,disturbing thoughts related to their experience and may relive the event through flashbacks or nightmares.Individuals facing issues of PTSD try to avoid situations or people connected to that traumatic event or experience,and they shows strong negetive reactions to those situations.

SSymptoms of PTSD

• Recurrent distressing memories of the traumatic event
• Flashbacks or nightmares related to stressful event
• Panic episode
• Sleep disturbances
• Mood disturbances when thinking about the Traumatic situation
• Agitation
• Nervousness and anxiety
• Unable to concentrate
• Hypervigilance


Treatment

Mental health professional use a combination of talk therapy (psychotherapy) and medication to address PTSD.Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the major talk therapy method used by the therapist.In the case of medication antidepressants such as SSRIs and SNRIs are commonly used to treat the symptoms of PTSD
